How To Search Google For Country Specific Results

Running an international online business with the capability to service people from any country means that you want your site to perform well not only in local country specific results but also global results. You may not realize this but doing a standard Google search and leaving the "full web" option selected does not necessarily give you your website's true location in the Google global results. It gives you the global results given your location.

For example, the results of doing a full web search in my home city of Brisbane Australia will be different to a full web search from Toronto Canada.

Google gives results based on your location even when you are not stipulating a local result. You can click your local country only result button and get sites that are from your home country, usually determined by the domain name extension, for example .com.au for Australia, .ca for Canada, etc. or the IP address of your web hosting server, or you can click the web option and get global Internet results that vary depending on your computer's location in the world (based on the IP address of the computer you are using to access the Internet).

Think Global

If your business can service the world then you really can not ignore the American marketplace, or if you are in the USA do not forget about Europe, Asia and the rest. Since you need to know how well your site is performing in Google global search results and unfortunately simply ticking the "the web" option in Google when searching can be misleading because your ranking will be different if it was someone in a different country doing the exact same search.

What you want to know is when someone in the UK does a Google search for one of your terms, how high is your website up in the search results? With this little trick you can figure it out.

The Code

All you need to do is add & gl = uk to the URL at the end of the Google search query.

For example:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=sample+query&meta= & gl = uk

This tells Google to spit out the results for the query based on UK servers.

I can not guarantee 100% conclusively that this works as I expect it does, but it definitely does something and you should try it yourself and see if your site shows up in a different place in the results. The "gl" stands for G eographic L ocation and of course you can exchange the last letters to test different country results around the world.

How To Start A Restaurant Business

First of all you will need to think about the type of restaurant you want to open. Primarily, restaurants are grouped into three categories: quick service or fast food, midscale where you will get a good meal for a good price, and upscale with plenty of charm and fancy cuisine. This will also be dependent upon the type of food you want to serve, and the type of customers frequent the area.

One idea is to open an ethnic restaurant such as, Italian, Mexican, French, etc.. You can open an ethnic restaurant in any of the three categories, but before you choose take a look at the demographics of your area. You may want to take a demographic survey so you can get information on:

o The ages of the customers that will eat at your restaurant business.

o What types of ethnic groups live in the surrounding area.

o The occupations and income levels near your restaurant business.

o How many people will be interested in the type of food you will be serving.

o What are the needs, in terms of services or products, of the people in your area? Will you get enough business in the area you are planning to put your restaurant business?

A competitive analysis will show you what other restaurant business are in the area and what type of competition they will give you. You can do this by going to the restaurants as a customer, and checking out the menu to see how much they charge for their food and drink. This will help you decide how much to charge for your fare. To start your competitive survey, you should check the phone book and yellow pages in that area that have a restaurant business in the same category as yours.

The type and size of your restaurant business will determine the amount or size of the following:

o What you will need in the line of equipment.

o How many pieces of dishware, glassware, flatware, linens and napkins, you will need.

o Cooler, freezer, and storage size.

o How large your building will need to be.

o How many employees you should hire.

o How much parking you will need.

o What you will need in the line of advertising.

What will you call your restaurant business? The choice of a name should be one that reflects what you sell and will help you sell your goods. You will want all of your customers to be able to pronounce and spell the name to look it up in the phone book, or when writing a check. The name should be more creative than the competition, and represents the type of menu you are offering.

Make sure you are not stepping on someone else, check to see if the name you have chosen has been registered to someone else under a trademark. If it isn’t, make sure that you register the name with your county clerk. You should also check with the federal government to see that there are no trademarks registered through them with the name you have chosen. You can be sued for using an already registered name.

Why Search Engine Optimization Is Necessary

When you search for a certain something on a search engine it opens up a number of pages containing possible answers for your search. These answers are your search results and the pages which contain these are the SERP or Search Engine Result Pages. Now, consider the many times that you have probably used a search engine, and the many results which each of these searches have raked up. If you think about it closely you will probably discover that out of all those million SERPs that you have opened up through your searches each time you have probably visited at the very most the first 3 pages of results, the rest you have ignored like they didn 't even exist.

As the owner of a website being thus ignored by visitors and sidelined by search engines has probably kept you up nights wondering exactly how you might better the position of your site. Well the answer is simple; through SEO.

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization refers to a process by means of which a website earns high ranking among the search results, gets a coveted place on the SERP and therey pulls in a large chunk of unique visitors.

Websites can broadly be classified into 4 different types:

Personal sites

Corporate Sites

Sites providing information

E-commerce sites

As is obvious the first two types of websites can hold their own without using SEO. That is because they are target group is in itself a niche and it does not want or need audiences beyond that niche. However, that can not be said for the last two types of websites. If you build a site primarily to circulate information or for commercial use then you would definitely need unique visitors, these may be found only by means of good ranking on SERPs and therefore by means of SEO.

Another important consideration, while on the topic of content, is keywords. Your keywords are words or phrases which summarize or represent the main topic or subject of your site, when a search engine scans the body of your websites text it picks up these repeating words and match them with the words being searched if they match then you get a high ranking.

When selecting your keywords make sure you choose words which are most likely to be used by users searching for a site like yours or subjects covered by your site. After you have selected them sprinkle them abundantly within the text of your site. However be careful that you do not unnecessarily stuff them at inappropriate junctures cause that might attract criticism or even a penalty. Your keyword density per page can be anywhere between 5-15%, depending on of course how skillfully you may choose to repeat them. Make sure that you use your key words / phrases freely in the first two paragraphs of the text. Also, remember to include them in the concluding line of your text. But most importantly use them in your anchor text, certain Search Engines like Google put a lot of importance on the anchor text of your inbound links.
